Bodhin's Thorpe Hat Remix~ 2012

Pattern is Thorpe (Ravelry Link) by Kirsten Kapur of Through the Loops.

I modified the pattern math so it worked with a worsted weight gauge yarn and fit a toddler/small child.

Made from Miss Babs Yowza in Out of Hand.

 Bodhi is not a fan of ties on his hat... to make them more fun, I added a FROG!

Which was a huge hit.

Ties are braided crochet chains.

I made crocheted worms for the top...

...and a felt patch with a "B" on it.

B for "Bodhi" and for "Back" (so he knows which side is the back).

Ann's Earflap Hat 2012~

Every year I make my girls a new hat.

This year Ann requested an earflap hat.

I selected a delicious handspun from my stash (spun by Therese of Jump Sheep).

This yarn was two separate colors, so I knit a fibonacci stripe to blend them.

Added braided tails and some squishy pom poms.

Zoe's Earflap Hat 2012

Our friend Zoe wanted a hat this year.

Being seven years old(!), she was very clear about what she wanted. 

Earflaps, bright colors and "nothing scratchy"!!

Pattern is Thorpe by Kirsten Kapur~ (Ravelry pattern link)

I used a fibonacci stripe for the top of the hat.

Knit from leftovers from my hand dyed yarns (in scarlet red and acid moss green) and a soft purple alpaca by Debbie Stoller (Stitch n' Bitch Yarn).
Complete with pom-poms and braids.

The most gorgeous yarn I have seen in a while...

Yowza! What a Skein worsted yarn by MissBabs.com~

In a one-of-a-kind color way... of which there is no more (boo!)

Used about a third of a skein... Yowza's are huge- 560 yards per skein.

Band is seed stitch and hat is a seeded rib stitch ... 

the seed stitch shows off the color changes so nicely.

Complete with a ponytail hole! Perfect greenhouse hat.

Dad's Giant Head Hat~

~Finally, some finished knitting that I can share! Most things I finish are for gifts, so I don;t want to post and spoil the surprise, then I forget to get photos after they are gifted.

Introducing.... the Giant Head Hat I made for my dad. 

It's a 24 inch circumference around the brim.

Big. Hat.

He lives 3,000 miles from me, so I am depending on him to send me a photo... ahem. hint hint.

He has the brim all rolled up, like a Monmouth Hat...

Made from Miss Babs Yowza in Black Walnut.

Yowza is my favorite, favorite yarn right now. 

I am using it on the majority of things currently on the needles~ 

Go buy some from her.  

It's yummy, and washable, and the skeins are huge... and her colorways? drool.

OK, enough yarn pimping...

This hat was designed by me, combining basic hat knitting with custom features for my dad.
Here are my notes...
Used half a skein of Yowza (which are 560 yard skeins), so about one standard skein of worsted weight yarn (which usually run about 220 yards).
*Yarn held double*... so the gauge is really a chunky yarn, one strand of chunky = two strands of worsted held together.
Size 9 needles...
~ Cast on 88
~ K2P2 rib for 4 inches
~ Knit in round normally for 5 more inches (9 total inches from cast on edge)
~ Divide into 4 sections (22 st each) and place markers
~ Begin decrease... *k2tog, knit to 2 st before marker, ssk, sm, k2tog*... repeat around
~ Knit 1 normal round between each decrease round until 8 st remain
~ Cut yarn, thread through remaining 8 stitches, secure and weave in ends.

Ribbed brim either gives the hat extra length or can be folded up for super thickness over ears.

Ann's Fiona Hat

We call it her Fiona hat (as in Shrek). 

She is not a fan of the name but... it has stuck.

Pattern I used is Bzz Hat for Queen Bees by Anne Wolfe (rav link) from the Stitch 'n Bitch Nation book.

I modified the pattern to suit Ann but only to change the fit.  I added to the width and some length.

Gauge was different than the pattern suggested also... I used a size 8 needle. 

Yarn is Malabrigo Worsted in Apple Green (available in the Shop!)

It is her go-to bum around the house, everyday hat this year.

Eve's Thorpe Hat

This cute hat is Eve’s favorite... she wears it every day.

The pattern is "Thorpe"(rav link), another amazing pattern by Kirsten Kapur~ of Through the Loops.

Knit from a two ply handspun by Shannon of Spun Monkey… in the colorway called 

"Melting Pot", available in the Art Yarn shop.

Size 9 needle...

The edges and braids are a heathered Cascade 220, not sure of the colorway, it is a peachy pink.

Baby Pip Hat

Gauge is 5 st/in in K1P1 pattern~

With a worsted weight yarn...

~ Size 8 dpn (or whatever size you need to obtain gauge)

~ Cast on 40 (preemie) (56 (newborn) or 60 (infant)) stitches and divide evenly between needles.

~ Connect and begin working in the round in K1P1 until hat measures 4 (4.5, 5) inches from cast on edge.

~ Divide stitches evenly on to two needles and bind off using three needle bind off.

~ Flip hat inside out so the bind off sea is on the inside.

Three needle bind off~

Knit 1st stitch from both front and back needle together

repeat and pass 1st st over 2nd st and drop off.

Repeat this pattern until seam is completed.

End and weave in ends.

Embellish the corners of the hat with pom-poms, tassels or ears.

Aurelie Hat

Aurelie knit up pretty fast and turned out beautifully!

I used my Personality ribbed hat pattern.

After the hat was knit I took some time to tack the corners of the lace pieces to the hat, being careful to allow them room to stretch when the hat is put on.

They were cute hanging loose as they were plied into the yarn, sewing them down was an aesthetic thing for me.

It was inspired by a shabby-chic blog that I follow. I was thinking victorian and vintage and girly.

Random Chaos Hat!

After only 3 froggings (rip outs)! argh.

The yarn finally decided to become a ribbed personality hat.

The coils demanded accentuation so I made the coiled stitches really (really) loose

and then pulled them to the front.

First few attempts were to make it a garter stitch edge, then just a stockinette stitch, similar to the Hippie Skull Hugger Hat, but the coils looked deflated and frustrated, so I kept trying.

I think the ribs help the colors changes to pop a bit more and the coils just glow, well, they glow because they are acid green, but you know what I mean.

I love it.

It is ob-nox-ious. This yarn was spun purely for the color combo.

The yarn was originally called "Monster Mash" and was in a trunk show that was sent to some yarn shops around Halloween. BUT the colors are great for any time of the year and just make me so very happy.

Hat #3...

I knit the hat with the beads intact, then decided the hat did not like the beads so I snipped them off. I used EZ's Pillbox Hat (rav link) as a base pattern, but adapted it for my yarn and for the shape I wanted.

It turned out really cute.. I love it, and it fits nice and tight.

The chrysanthemum is crocheted from malabrigo and has a pin back sewn to it so it can be moved around on the hat or removed and worn as a brooch.

This is my sarcastic child being all fake-cheeseball-cutesy for the shot.

The corals look pink-ish in these outside shots...
