Dreaming and Thinking Time~

I have been taking time each morning for myself.
On the couch, with my knitting... and my magic journals.
Dreaming and Thinking and Planning.

It's a powerful thing, what comes from taking this time for myself. It's not just about making things happen, it also calms me (I am not known for my calmness, haha), and stills the voices in my head.

We have been working on our Vision and Mission for our farm. Trying to focus on a few of the kajillion ideas we have. Figuring out a plan of action.  It's overwhelming at times, hard to see the end anywhere in site. It's good to keep the big picture in mind, and focus on WHY we are doing this.

This poem from Mary Oliver came back to me today~

The Summer Day

MARY OLIVER

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.

Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

It sums up our vision and mission.
Good stuff.

 After my Dreaming session, an email plunked into my inbox from Ali Edwards... her  52 Creative Lifts that come once a week.
This is Week 21, entitled Declare a Dreaming Day, written by Tracey Clark.
I love confirmations, and this email was just that,
to keep on with the Dreaming and Thinking and Planning time.
Even when it's hard to find an hour or a day to do so...

Another Case of Knitting Startitis!

It's been a month of no-knitting for me. Not sure why, just been running around a lot and basking in the sunshine I suppose...

This morning I snapped back into it though, after an epiphany of sorts with the current baby sweater I have on my needles, (no details, for baby gifties!)... all BOYS too.
Someone needs to make a girl baby so I can knit some frilly stuff!

I can, however, show you the yarn I am using.
Yummy, and perfect for a dirt-ball boy. The goal is to make the sweaters fit from infant to toddlerhood,
and these are earthy-farmer babies, so they will be in.the.dirt.

The first sweater is being made from Miss Babs Yowza in Black Walnut.
As I have mentioned before, Yowza is my favorite, favorite yarn right now.
Miss Babs is a color-fairy genius. Go buy some from her.
It's yummy, and washable, and the skeins are huge... and her colorways? drool.

Second baby sweater (not on the needles yet) will be made from this...
Which I purchased this morning from Handsome Fibers on etsy.
Nom nom nom.... cannot wait to hold it in my hands.

~~~~~~
So I spent too much time on Ravelry this morning...
Bought and printed this...
MEOW!
Painfully adorable, isn't it? and MADE FROM HANDSPUN. Which I kind of have a lot of.
Not sure which yarn I will use though, digging through the stash starts another insanity-thing I probably cannot handle today. (grin)
This is beyond cute too... and sort of similar.
I like the idea of skinny arms and legs for teething babies.
Then there is this pattern, a perfect stash buster project,
Called Odd Ends by Carina Spencer (Ravelry Link)
LOVE this idea. I could go off in all sorts of directions with this pattern.
Luckily, we needed to move the chickens today, so I was distracted from collecting new projects.
What are YOU working on right now???
Life in May~
Life has been happening around here, I have just been in it and not blogging much...
We have been busy, taking every possible moment of the WARM WEATHER to prep the gardens and farm and critters for spring and summer.
My mom was here from PA, visiting for a few weeks... and Ann turned 13!
Ann's fav gift.... her very own "Precious"
I seem to have birthed a sci-fi geeky girl...
she loves anything Star Trek, Lord of the Rings or Star Wars
 She also got a Jim Henson doodle book... (and a Star Trek t-shirt as you can see here)
 My mom being silly.
 LOVE this tulip color...
 One of our resident hummingbirds.
 My mom taking pics of Ann.
 Ann's birthday cake.
C'mere! I mustache you a question~
Paul and I in Spring 1995... not long after we were married. Pre-kiddos.
The sunglasses, beaded shirt and that mustache?
Oh my... we were in that in-love stage where you get a bit, um... tuned out (?) to reality.
But we were sooo happy and cute.
Our Dreams are Here NOW~
There are several blogs that I follow...
They inspire me and give me plenty of food for thought.
One of my favorites blogs is by Melody Ross, of The Brave Girls Club.
Her post this morning talked about the bad habit of waiting for the shoe to drop.
Living in fear of bad things happening...
I am SO guilty of this... I know I am happy and that we are in the midst of such a fantastic, blessed time in our lives, but there is always that voice in my head saying "enjoy it, it may not last".
That voice comes from years of lean and hard, stressful times. It was a coping mechanism that I needed at the time, admitting there are things I have no control over and just hanging on by a thread.
But those times are years in the past. Life is amazing now, and I am learning how to expect them to stay amazing.  I now know how strong we are, and what we learned from our struggles.
So really, no matter what the future brings, we will be OK.
I have learned to appreciate the NOW, because NOW is all we really have.
The past is gone, and the future? It's not guaranteed and definitely not here yet.
I REALLY loved to this part of her post...
We feel the same way about our farm!
Like it has been waiting for us it's whole life.
Now we are here and have magical things planned for it.
Even after a year and a half, we are still in the "pinch me" phase.
Sitting in a very grateful and thankful place right now.
Life is good.
